Center drills are used to start boring operations when the actual boring tool must have a precise and highly accurate starting point. As opposed to conventional boring tools, these center drills are very short and very stiff. There are various ways in which these center drills are measured or preset, depending on the application. They can be preset to length, to a theoretical tip and to length depending on diameter. All those parameters can be measured by means of a standard selection of cutting edge shapes and automatic cutting edge selection as of "saturn set" software.
