The measuring of cutting tools to be installed into CNC turning, boring or milling machines depends greatly on the clamping system of the spindle and its accuracy during changing operations. This change accuracy affects the machine spindle or its clamping system of the machine tool. In addition, the clamping system and its change accuracy affects not only the presetter and measuring machine but also the entire process. It is therefore of fundamental importance which change accuracy the tool holding or the spindle of the presetter and measuring machine and what promises are made by the manufacturer. ZOLLER presetters and measuring machines are among the most accurate in the world. That affects the 2m (2 micron) repeatability of the vision system and thus the tool holding change accuracy. For this reason, ZOLLER offers power operated clamping for all rotating tools. This function is executed by means of a specially developed membrane keyboard which ensures that always the same clamping forces are applied no matter who operates the system. When dealing with presetters and measuring machines, in addition to change accuracy in the real tool shaft, with what accuracy changes can be made with different shafts, such as HSK, Quick release taper (steep taper), Capto, VDI, etc.. Preferably as the number of machine tools increases in a shop, the presetters and measuring machines must be able to deal with the different clamping systems and tool shafts. In its simplest form, one selects adapters based on the SK50 system. The ever requirements for ever more accurate tools, especially HSK, this interface no longer meets the demanding requirements. ZOLLER can provide an excellent interface with its universal spindle. Changing an adapter holder on ZOLLER equipment takes only 10 seconds and is done with a guaranteed accuracy of 1. Changing an adapter holder does not require any additional tools. Because of this high level of change accuracy when, for example, changing from Quick release taper (steep taper)to HSK, recalibration of the zero point is not necessary. ZOLLER adapter holders feature an integrated calibration edge and an automatic calibration function. Additional zeroing and the potential errors that can be introduced by additional interfaces are completely avoided and any calibrating that is needed can be done with the push of one key when running ZOLLER’s "saturn 2".
