In tool measurement technology "data chips" are re-writeable chips that are installed in pull studs or driver grooves of tools. These chips are used to store and transfer the tool number as well as other tool data according to the description in the tool id data string. These data chips are written-to or read on machine tools, presetter and measuring machines as well as on external commissioning workstations.
