Horizontal
First tool presetting systems were horizontal because of the nature of the tool holding systems used at that time. Horizontal refers to the fact that the middle axis of the tool is positioned horizontally when it is placed into the presetter spindle. Over time and resulting from the development of a universal interface by ZOLLER, an increasing number of vertical presetters are on the market. The mechanical systems of a vertical presetter are much simpler and operation is ergonomic. This approach is especially favored since ZOLLER positioned the camera such that it views the cutting edge of the tool with the monitor and cutting tool edge being at the same level. Unlike the old projector technology, the operator no longer has to stand on a step ladder. The new vertical approach further greatly minimizes parallax errors, this certainly being the case with ZOLLER equipment.
