Stepped drill
Stepped borers or drills are tools, which can perform multiple boring and step operations simultaneously. Generally, these tools make holes, plane faces, countersinking and the transitions from one step to the next. Measuring and inspecting such tools is particularly important before they are placed into service. Manufacturers used to test a tool by means of test boring. A much faster and more efficient way is to use ZOLLER presetters and measuring machines which can test such tools fully automatically and to micron (m) accuracy. Each individual step of a stepped tool is recognized by means of the ZOLLER software "atlas". its "Teach-In" function as well as automatic recognition of the cutting edge shape allow automatic storage and the cutting edge shapes can be recalled at any time with a single keystroke. ZOLLER’s "Lasso function" software can be used to scan the entire contour of the stepped tool given starting and finishing point. Thus, both toolmakers and users of stepped tools have the full measurement sequence at their disposal merely by pressing a key on the keyboard. Moreover, as the result they receive a printout of a measuring report containing a tool drawing with measurements.
